Mission and vision
The basic mission of the university are the teaching, the research and the public service with the student at the centre of the attention and always aiming toward the application of an individual approach to the student.
“Choose wisely, act boldly“ is our motto that incorporates the personal choice and the courage to make a positive change, which will happen in each of us. Together with all the participants we continue to build UGD as a place of competent and highly motivated students, fulfilled and valued professors and employees, and also to build a University that will maintain and develop the most humane values to which the civilized man aspires.
Better, stronger and humane UGD is our vision in which we strongly believe and aim for.
Foundation
In the foundation of the University, it functioned with 7 faculties and one higher school: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economy, Faculty of Pedagogy, Faculty of Mining, Geology and Polytechnic, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Faculty of Music and Higher Medical School.
Since the academic 2008/2009 year the University has established six new faculties: Faculty of Medical Science, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Tourism and Business Logistics.
In the first academic year, 1.300 students were enrolled at the University.
Since its foundation, UGD is established on the ideals of inclusivity, variety and cooperation. Today, the University represents a growing and dynamic institutions dedicated to broadening the access to education, innovations and the provision of social welfare for all. It is located in east part of North Macedonia and with its regional presence it is dedicated to the success of its students and the fulfilment of the scientific challenges of the 21st century.

History of UGD
In order to revitalize the south-east region of the Republic of North Macedonia and to found a higher-education institution that will cover that region and will represent new added value and an integral part of Macedonian education, a new state university “Goce Delcev” with headquarters in Stip was founded on 27th of March 2007.
The first Constitutive Session of the University Senate was held on 28.06.2007, in the amphitheatre of the Faculty of Pedagogy and the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Polytechnic. In the presence of the members of the parent committee of the University “Goce Delcev”, representatives from students, professors and assistants as well as citizens of Stip, the University’s Senate unanimously decided to appoint Prof. Sasha Mitrev, a full time PhD professor at the Faculty of Agriculture as a rector of the university, while prof. Dushan Todorovski PhD, associate professor at the Faculty of Pedagogy, was elected the first president of the University Senate. Prof. Mitrev held the position of a rector for two mandates in the period from 2007 to 2015. In 2015 prof. Blazho Boev, PhD, at the Faculty of natural and technical sciences was elected as a rector and maintained this position in the period from 2015 to 2022.
Since September 2020 the function Rector is held by prof. Dejan Mirakovski, PhD from the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences.
Growth and development
In its 16 years of existence, the University has continuously expanded and developed through the introduction of new faculties and new study programmes, and through a constant appeal to a large number of students from Macedonia and abroad. Throughout the years, the focus has been on the increasement and the improvement of the quality of education and the scientific research, the introduction of innovation, digitalisation and establishment of cooperation with local and international institutions, universities and the business environment.
Today, the University represents a reputable institution in the field of higher education, which provides quality education and social welfare for everyone.
The achieved successes and following the world trends in higher education and science are confirmed by independent world rankings where the University Goce Delcev in Stip is second compared to the other 11 universities in Macedonia; moreover, every year the university continuously advances in the rankings in the list of all the universities in the world.
Faculties and academies
Today within the University there are 12 faculties and 3 academies that are organised in campuses: Faculty of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Economy, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Computer Sciences, Faculty of Tourism and Business Logistics, Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Art Academy, Music Academy and Film Academy.
The faculties and the academies offer various bachelor, master and doctor study programmes that enable the students to educate and improve in various fields. Beside the academic knowledge, the university pays a lot of attention and dedicates resources to practical teaching and training, which helps the students to acquire practical skills and additional experience that will be of great use in their future employment and career.
The research and the development are one of the main foundations on which the University Goce Delcev has been build on and is still supported by. The academic personnel is constantly included into different research and scientific projects and other forms of cooperation in a large network of local and international partners. The research activity represents one of the key criteria for the promotion of the teaching staff, and the university’s scientific fund offers small grants to encourage and help the research and the innovative activities.

Anthem of UGD
University’s anthem is a ceremonial song dedicated to the role and the significance of the University. It was produced by Prof. Ilcho Jovanov,PhD. It is played on celebrations, promotions and other festive or sports celebrations that are conducted within the University.
