On September 13, on the stage of the “Camploj” theater in Verona, Italy, the Skopje Dance Theater will perform with the play “D” (as Desdemona) choreographed by Risima Risimkin. The performance will feature the first-year students of the Skopje Dance Theater, some of the students from the Department of Contemporary Dance at the UGD, and students from the “Ilija Nikolovski-Luj” Ballet Department – Contemporary Direction.

The play is part of the trilogy by choreographer and university professor Risima Risimkin, entitled “Women in the Works of Shakespeare”, which had its premiere at the first “Days of Macedonian Choreographers” held at the National Ballet of Macedonia, and was then performed at the opening ceremony of the International Monodrama Festival in Bitola. This is Risimkin’s second appearance at the Shakespeare Festival in Verona, the first was with “Lady Macbeth” in 2023, when the play absolutely won over the audience.

The students’ performance is part of the “UGD – Step into the World” program, a project that has been running for the third year, with the aim of integrating students into the international dance scene through professional experience, which allows them to develop artistic integrity. “Goce Delchev” University is constantly keeping up with global trends and allows its students to participate in real projects, through which they receive practical professional education and experience, which later helps them integrate into the domestic and global dance scene. At the same time, this year Risimkin is also collaborating with the “Ilija Nikolovski-Luj” DMBUC with the aim of integrating students into the professional dance scene.

– We are looking forward to the performance on the beautiful stage of the “Kamploy” theater in Verona and the reunion with the audience, which last time welcomed us with huge applause and enthusiasm. Working on a theme from Shakespeare’s work is a huge challenge for me and I am looking forward to meeting an audience that knows Shakespeare and before whom we will present our artistic expression – says Prof. Dr. Risima Risimkin.

The play is set to music by composer Toni Kitanovski, costumes by Blagoj Micevski, stage design by Matea Mijanović. “Desdemona” is performed by Anastasija Dancevska, Iago is Dejan Bitrovski, Othello is Luka Georgievski, Emilia is Sara Dimovska, The Shadow is Davor Milev, and Voices are Nadja Lukanova, Nina Petrushevska and Teona Gjurovska. The play is produced by the Skopje Dance Theatre / Interart Cultural Center in 2025.
