Within the framework of the traditional event “Young Researchers’ Days”, the IV Brain Gain Conference Carbonica began today under the title “Agroecological Potential for Carbon Agriculture – Global Knowledge and Local Challenges”. The event is being held at the Faculty of Agriculture at the University “Goce Delcev” – Shtip and is part of the activities of the “Carbonica” project.

– The Faculty of Agriculture at the UGD is the organizer of this Brain Gain conference for the second time as part of the “Carbonica” project. The goal is to unite national experts, but also those from the diaspora. Our experts from the diaspora should redirect the knowledge acquired in international institutions to the advancement of carbon agriculture in the country. Today’s conference is attended by stakeholders participating in the project – professors, representatives from the non-governmental sector, as well as from the economy. Our students from the first, second and third cycles of studies are also present today – said Prof. Dr. Biljana Balabanova, Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture.

The conference aims to bring together national and international experts, including scientists from the Macedonian diaspora, in order to exchange knowledge and experiences in the field of carbon agriculture and sustainable development.

– The goal is to exchange scientific knowledge on sustainable agriculture. Carbon agriculture is a system that, through the conservation of carbon in the soil and the rational use of resources, integrates measures to mitigate climate change. This is where the greatest challenge and the greatest opportunities for agriculture in the 21st century lie – added Prof. Dr. Violeta Ilieva from the Faculty of Agriculture.

The Brain Gain Carbonica conference is only the first part of the three-day event “Days of Young Researchers”, which will continue with the VI Student Conference “Critical Issues in Agriculture and the Environment” on November 12 and “Open Laboratories” – an experimental day intended for high school students, on November 13.

With such activities, the Faculty of Agriculture at the University “Goce Delcev” – Stip strengthens its role as a center of knowledge, innovation and scientific cooperation between the academic community, the economy and the civil sector.
