Goce Delcev University – Stip hosted a working meeting between the Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozinovska, and the Rector of the UGD, Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski, accompanied by the University management.
The meeting defined the guidelines for strengthening cooperation between the academic community, the line ministry and the Government, with a focus on joint research and development projects.
One of the key initiatives at the meeting was the preparation of a comprehensive map of geological exploration in Macedonia, as well as the promotion and protection of the country’s natural resources.
“Our goal is jointly — the Ministry, the Government, the academic community, the University ‘Goce Delcev’ and the Geological Survey — to create a map of geological exploration in Macedonia. We also discussed the protection of corundum, i.e. the Macedonian ruby, and the possibilities for its promotion, as well as which other resources in the country can be additionally protected. In two weeks we will have a new meeting at which we will specifically define all the priority projects on which we will work together,” said Minister Sanja Božinovska.
The cooperation between the UGD and the Ministry will enable applications for projects financed by both domestic and international funds. These projects will cover a wide range of areas, including proper management and protection of mineral resources, environmental protection, water resources, climate change and sustainable energy solutions such as agrophotovoltaics.
The Rector of the University ‘Goce Delcev’, Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski, emphasized that the UGD has top-notch spatial and scientific capacities that can be put at the service of the state and citizens.
“The university has one of the best laboratory centers in this field in the region and has extensive scientific experience. Science must actively participate in all changes, the energy transition and dealing with climate change. With fast, efficient and precise solutions, with support from state institutions and industry, we can improve the quality of life and use the resources we have more efficiently,” said Rector Mirakovski.
With the upcoming meeting scheduled in two weeks, it is expected that the implementation of the first phase of the agreed joint projects will officially begin.
