Prof. Dr. Emilija Janevikj-Ivanovska from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Goce Delcev University – Stip has received the prestigious French distinction “Knight of the Order of Academic Palms” (Chevalière dans l’Ordre des Palmes académiques).
This distinction recognises her scientific work, her contribution to the development of medical research, as well as her continuous efforts to advance university cooperation and the French-speaking community (Francophonie).
“You are a person of great importance to Francophonie and university cooperation. It is precisely because of this connection and your contribution to the development of medical research that the French Republic has decided to award you this distinction. Through this honour, the French Minister of Education and France pay tribute to an outstanding scientific career, as well as to your valuable dedication to fostering friendship and cooperation between France and North Macedonia,” Ambassador Le Rigoleur stated during the presentation.
Addressing the attendees, Prof. Dr. Janevikj-Ivanovska expressed her gratitude for the honour, emphasising the emotional significance of this distinction throughout her long-standing career.
“It is with immense gratitude and deep emotion that I receive this distinction today. I sincerely thank the French Republic and you, Ambassador, for your trust, consideration, and for organising this ceremony. When I was told that I would be expected to speak this evening, I realised that even after so many years, I still feel a great deal of nervousness – nervousness stemming from the honour bestowed upon me, the respect I have for all of you, and the significance of this moment we are sharing together,” said Professor Janevikj-Ivanovska.
The Order of Academic Palms is one of the oldest civilian distinctions in France. Established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1808, it honours distinguished academics and individuals for their exceptional contributions to education, science, and culture.
