As part of the European Researchers’ Night 2026, the panel discussion on the topic “Food – friend or foe of our health?” was successfully held, which attracted great interest and was especially attended by young high school students.

What do we eat today and how do our choices affect our health tomorrow? Is food our ally in preserving health or, on the contrary, can certain habits negatively affect our organism? What are the components in our daily diet that provide our cells and our organism as a whole with the necessary energy to maintain life processes? How can a consumer recognize quality food and who is responsible for his or her health – the producer or the consumer? How does our relationship with food improve or worsen our physical fitness, the ability to move and be healthy and physically active? What are the potential negative impacts of inappropriate choices and excessive consumption of certain types of food on human health?..

These, as well as a number of other current issues, were discussed in an interesting and interactive discussion.

Active participants in the panel discussion were: Prof. Dr. Tatjana Rushkovska, full professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University “Goce Delcev” – Stip, Prof. Dr. Dusica Popova, associate professor at the Faculty of Tourism and Business Logistics, University “Goce Delcev” – Stip, Prof. Dr. Biljana Popeska, full professor at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University “Goce Delcev” – Stip and Prof. Dr. Valentina Velkovska Nakova, full professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University “Goce Delcev” – Stip.
The moderator of the panel discussion was Prof. Dr. Emilija Arsov, full professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, University “Goce Delcev” – Stip, who with her knowledge in the inexhaustible topic of the meaning of food, contributed to a quality, dynamic and inspiring discussion.

Science, research and everyday habits were connected in one place, with a special focus on the importance of proper nutrition, food quality and safety, the impact of the modern diet and the importance of informed choice.

High school students had the opportunity to hear scientific knowledge and opinions from experts, but also to actively engage in the discussion by asking questions, sharing opinions and thoughts on everyday choices related to nutrition.

The great interest and active participation of young people showed that topics related to health, science and quality of life are particularly important for new generations and that such meetings are an excellent opportunity to bring science closer to young people in an interesting and understandable way.

The event once again confirmed that food is not just something we eat, but an important part of our health, everyday life and quality of life.
