“Goce Delcev” University today rounded off the celebration of the patron saint’s holiday, March 27, by promoting the new doctors of science, who received their doctorates at UGD in the past, 2025. A total of 14 doctors of science were promoted from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, one from the Faculty of Tourism and Business Logistics and one from the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences.

– We live in a very dynamic society, I believe that science is the only solution to the problems we face, for the development of society, for a better and higher quality of life for all, which is a truly great pleasure that today we are promoting the new doctors of science, who should be the bearers of that science, of development and of that better and higher quality of life in the future. I wish my colleagues much success, may they proudly wear the title they have acquired and be true representatives of both the University and the areas in which they operate. I am sure that we have many good candidates, who are truly the pride of every university. There is interest in studying at the third cycle of studies, even at certain faculties we cannot satisfy the needs, the demands of the candidates, especially in terms of the number of mentors, because the number of mentors is limited. As an institution, we try to provide them with appropriate conditions for research, to support that research from all aspects – both from the resources that are needed, and even to provide material funds for that research. I really think that it is very important to have a much larger and higher quality number of scientists who will solve problems. There is no good solution to any problem if it is not based on science.

Study programs at the third cycle of studies require very high criteria and their organization is not a simple task. At certain faculties we do not have enough resources to realize them, but a larger number of faculties have doctoral studies and we try to raise the quality in all aspects. The new laws that are in the process of being adopted require that the criteria be increased, I am sure that we will manage to meet the criteria and as a university to continue educating the most highly educated personnel – said the rector of the University “Goce Delcev”, Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski.

Dr. Gabriela Dimova, a specialist radiologist, received her doctorate on the topic of monitoring oncology patients in terms of their changes in the liver.

– We monitored such changes on computed tomography and ultrasound. It is noticeable that there is application, because these are chronic patients who require continuous monitoring every three or six months, so this topic was very useful. The path to a doctoral degree is not easy. I think that everyone should focus on a topic in the field in which they work and be more practical, in order to further apply it, not to be some doctorate in statistical data processing, but to have a direction towards the practical, so that tomorrow it can be applied in everyday practice – said Dr. Gabriela Dimova.

Among the doctors of science from last year at the UGD was Dr. Sasko Nikolov, with a doctoral dissertation on the topic of peripheral arterial disease and treatment of varicose veins.

– This is a topic from cardiovascular medicine and it is a great pleasure for me to become a doctor of science within the University “Goce Delcev”, which is ours, in Stip. By completing the subspecialization of the UGD, together with the entire team of cardiologists who work at the Stip Clinical Hospital, together with the UGD, we manage to help as practitioners in the education of students. By completing this largest and most complex research area in our practice – the doctorate on a specific cardiovascular topic – we are taking a significant step forward, with which we expand and advance our scientific activities in the field of cardiovascular medicine – said Dr. Sasko Nikolov.
