Goce Delcev University – Stip hosted an important international meeting within the framework of the European University Alliance ACE²-EU, attended by rectors, institutional coordinators and representatives from nine partner universities from Europe.
The Rector of UGD, Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski, noted that key activities are underway to finalize the legal framework of the alliance, with the aim of its long-term functioning.
“We are currently reviewing the operational and organizational activities surrounding the formation of the joint legal entity, including defining the Statute, signing the agreements and harmonizing with European regulations on personal data protection,” said Mirakovski.
He added that the process is at an advanced stage and that the legal entity is expected to be registered in Brussels, given the specific legal framework in Belgium.
“I believe that already next year we will have a functional legal entity, which will enable further development of the Alliance,” emphasized the rector.
In parallel with institutional strengthening, the Alliance is also working on the development of joint study programs.
“We plan to start doctoral studies in the field of health, we already have 13 joint applications, three of which are in an advanced phase. Pharmacy is the furthest along in the process and we expect concrete results soon,” Mirakovskis pointed out.
The rector of the University of Applied Engineering Sciences in Kaunas, Lithuania, Prof. Dr. Lina Girdauskiene, emphasized the importance of European university alliances as a mechanism for creating added value in higher education.
“The creation of European university alliances represents significant added value. With joint European entities, we create synergy, cohesion and better use the resources of our institutions,” emphasized Girdauskiene.
She added that despite the differences between the countries, common European values are the key unifying factor.
“Unification in European values is what drives us. The convergence of different cultures and traditions encourages us to work together and overcome differences,” she said.
Sustainability and long-term vision of the Alliance
From the perspective of long-term sustainability, the Vice-Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland, Prof. Dr. Mihail Markuszewski, stressed that the establishment of a joint legal body is a key step towards permanently institutionalizing cooperation.
“The goal is for this rapprochement between universities to become a lasting value. Although the initiative is currently funded by the European Commission, our intention is to make it sustainable after this period,” said Markuszewski.
He emphasized that through joint applications for new projects and with headquarters in Brussels, the Alliance will continue to develop.
“By establishing a joint body, we will be able to jointly apply for new projects and maintain this partnership in the long term,” he added.
Within the three-day agenda, the participants discussed improving the mobility of students and academic staff, developing joint study programs, as well as integrating new activities within the Alliance.
Particular emphasis was placed on creating common standards, monitoring mechanisms and tools for improving educational processes, as well as developing new opportunities for student exchange, internships and doctoral studies.
The rectors also signed mutual agreements today, in order to facilitate the establishment of the joint legal entity and the Statute of that body.
The event confirmed that the UGD actively participates in European educational processes and positions itself as a relevant partner in the development of innovative models of higher education in Europe.
