Goce Delcev University – Stip held the traditional Open and Career Day 2026, an event that brought together high school students, students, professors and representatives from the private sector, with the aim of informing about study programs and opening specific opportunities for career development.
The event was held on the one-way street “Vancho Prke”, where visitors had the opportunity to directly learn about the academic offer of the university, the conditions for studying, as well as the opportunities for internships and employment through the companies present.
The Rector of Goce Delcev University – Stip, Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski, emphasized that the event plays a key role in connecting young people with the real sector.
“It is a special pleasure that for the second year, with the support of the local government and the Chamber of Commerce, we are organizing this day as a space where current students connect with companies, and future students get acquainted with the opportunities offered by the university. This is of great importance to us, because in this way we enable young people to realize their goals and receive a European education here, at home,” said Mirakovski.
He emphasized that this year over 50 companies participated in the event, i.e. a total of 54, which, according to him, is an indicator of the growing interest from the business sector.
“Companies are not only potential employers, but also mentors who offer practical work, and even paid internships. It is a process in which everyone wins – companies get quality staff, and students get the opportunity to realize their careers in practice,” added the rector.
The Mayor of Shtip, Ivan Jordanov, emphasized that the development of the city is directly related to the development of the university and cooperation with the business sector.
“This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn about study opportunities and to chart their professional path, and for companies to find staff to develop. The essence is that young people should be prepared for the labor market immediately after completing their education, which is also key to the development of the city,” said Jordanov.
He added that the local government will continue to improve the infrastructure and conditions in order for Shtip to be an attractive student center, not only for domestic, but also for foreign students.
The Economic Chamber of North Macedonia points out that such events are key to building a functional educational system connected to the needs of the market.
“Companies should not be seen only as employers, but as partners in the educational process. Without their involvement, we will have graduates, but not professionals. Therefore, it is important to strengthen the connection between academia and business and to enable practical work during studies,” emphasized Tatjana Šterjova Dushkovska, Operational Director for Development, Innovation and Knowledge at the Chamber.
The UGD Open and Career Day this year attracted significant interest among young people, with the attendance of around a thousand high school students, which, according to the organizers, represents a positive signal for the interest in higher education and the development of career opportunities in the country.
