Goce Delcev University – Stip informs students, young researchers and academic staff that UNESCO, in collaboration with the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the University of Plymouth, has announced a Call for Participation in the international training “Science Communication Training for Young Professionals and Early-Career Researchers“, which will be held on 13 and 14 October 2026 at the campus of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy.
The training is organized within the framework of the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development (2024–2033), an initiative led by UNESCO, which aims to strengthen the contribution of science to sustainable development by promoting inclusive, trustworthy and socially relevant science.
The program is intended for young professionals and researchers who want to improve their skills in communicating scientific knowledge with the public, the media and policymakers. Participants will gain practical knowledge on effective presentation of topics related to the environment, new technologies, artificial intelligence and sustainable development, as well as on building trust in science and dealing with disinformation.
The training will cover several thematic areas, including: science communication as a management tool, communication on technologies and artificial intelligence for sustainability, communication on water resources, biodiversity and climate change, scientific storytelling, cooperation with media and decision-makers, as well as ethics, inclusiveness and youth leadership in science communication.
Candidates aged 21 to 35, who are citizens of or affiliated with an institution in Europe or the South Caucasus, are eligible to apply. Masters and doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, young academics, professionals and practitioners working in the field of science or sustainable development and have good knowledge of the English language are eligible to apply.
Preference will be given to candidates associated with UNESCO biosphere reserves, global geoparks, UNESCO departments and centres, government institutions, civil society organisations, youth networks and organisations working on sustainable development issues. UNESCO particularly encourages women to apply.
The number of participants is limited, and for the selected candidates, depending on available funds, the organizers will cover travel expenses, accommodation and meals during the training. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate.
