Goce Delchev University is hosting the “Research Mission” event, which is part of the European Alliance of Universities ACE 2EU.

“All universities from the alliance gather in one place, right here with us and together with our professors participate in co-creation or joint creation and creation of future educational activities and opportunities that will essentially be part of regular teaching and educational programs within the framework of Goce Delchev University, but also within the framework of the alliance. This, of course, is not only an opportunity to develop such programs, but also to establish further contacts, additional cooperation with colleagues from other universities and to lay the foundations for what we have imagined in the future, a single university within the framework of the European University Alliance. The theme of today’s event is ‘Safety and Security for a Resilient and Inclusive Society’. We face many challenges nowadays, from the war in Ukraine, now the war in Palestine, international turbulence, so all countries, as well as individuals, are always bound by risk. Whether these are risks that come from within or from without is the reason why we decided that this is a current topic for us that we would like to address and set as the basis for future educational activities,” said the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at the University of Belgrade, Prof. Dr. Ana Nikodinovska-Krstevska.

“I am glad that today we have the opportunity to welcome our colleagues from the ACE 2EU Alliance who are together starting a very interesting activity that will cover security and inclusiveness from all possible aspects, starting from problems that are geopolitical, military and similar, digital security, security from the aspect of climate change, environmental protection in the event of emergencies that we have more and more often. So, a holistic approach to which these trainings will contribute from a different aspect, future opportunities for education of students not only at our university, but from all nine member universities of the Alliance. This will enable a new approach in preparing future personnel to deal with these situations. I am sure that The UGD, both our professors and our students, will give their best and will have two intensive working days and I hope that this is just the beginning of many interesting activities that will soon follow in the coming years. We are starting with short trainings, summer schools, and ultimately we should end with joint studies in the first, second and third cycles, and finally a university that will be established within the framework of the European Union. It is a process that is already underway, and our students can be part of those schools, which will slowly grow into formal schools, first of the second and third cycles, and then the first cycle, undergraduate studies. The time frame is somewhere between four and seven years, because a joint legal entity needs to be formed, which will be located on the territory of the EU, most likely in Brussels, these are processes that include both academic and legal aspects, and are intensively supported by the European Commission, and we hope that not only will we be equal, we will enable our students to really be exposed to a completely new level of knowledge, quality education and European diploma”, said the rector of UGD, Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski.

The ceremonial opening of the UGFD Research Mission was also attended by the mayor of Shtip, Ivan Jordanov, who stressed that it is important that Shtip is hosting such an event and that international cooperation is definitely a condition for the development of our city.

“This event and the arrival of professors from European universities, the transfer of knowledge will enable stronger institutions, the opportunity to create policies, through which a more modern, more modern and more inclusive society will be created. I am glad that the transfer of knowledge will take place in Shtip, and thanks to the membership of UGD in the European Alliance of Universities, I am sure that in the period to come, through that transfer of knowledge and through joint participation and networking, development will be created in different spheres of society, different segments, and I believe that all of this will contribute to the creation of development in our city”, said Mayor Jordanov.

On several panels, over the two days, professors from European universities, together with professors from the University of Belgrade, will work on security-related topics, and during part of their stay they will be able to get to know Shtip and part of its cultural and historical offer.
