Goce Delchev University in Shtip will host a prestigious summer school for young scientists and researchers from the Western Balkans, organized under the auspices of the Joint Research Center of the European Commission. The opportunity arose from the strategic partnership between the Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science and this EU reference center for science and research, which was established by signing a framework agreement for cooperation last year, which, as announced at the time, will provide new opportunities for work and creativity for our scientists and researchers through international networking.
“Under the umbrella of this agreement, the UGD will host this prestigious summer school entitled – European-level science for environmental protection, and the focus will be on the assessment of water, air and soil pollution. The school will be held from 14 to 18 September and I invite all interested young scientists and researchers from Macedonia, second and third cycle students and gifted undergraduate students, to apply for participation and development of personal capacities to respond to contemporary environmental challenges,” said Janevska.
She pointed out the importance of organizing an event in cooperation with the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, which actually means being part of the highest circles of European science.
“This centre is the internal scientific service of the European Commission, which provides key evidence for the creation of European policies. As a global authority, the centre sets standards for measurement, monitoring and certification, and this summer school is a rare opportunity for the top knowledge from European laboratories to be transferred directly to our region,” added the minister.
The Rector of the State University of Shtip, Prof. Dr. Mirakovski, informed that the number of participants is limited to 25 people from Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia. Participation is free of charge, and the Joint Research Centre will provide full financial support for travel and accommodation for the top 10 best-ranked candidates, while the remaining participants will cover these costs independently. So far, 32 candidates have applied, seven of whom are from Macedonia.
The Joint Research Centre Summer School for young scientists and researchers is organized every two years, and for the first time Macedonia will be the host.
