Through an international programme, students from UGD participated in international teams to create wine labels and campaigns for existing brands.
Gjorgji, Mila and Gordana, students at Goce Delchev University in Shtip, took part in the programme “Storytelling Labels: Interactive Creation for the World of Wine” in Santarém, Portugal.
The students visited a winery, explored its history, took professional photographs, and worked on marketing and augmented reality (AR).
Mila Todorova, a journalism student, was responsible for writing the text for the wine label. During their visit to the winery, the students heard the story of a woman who, after losing her husband, took care of her children on her own and continued working. Her favourite place to relax was a gazebo surrounded by yellow flowers. This story served as the inspiration for the text created for the wine label.
“My role was to create a story for the wine label that would allow consumers to connect with its authenticity, experience its uniqueness, and discover the history contained in every drop,” says Mila Todorova.
The student teams created interactive wine labels featuring content that could be accessed by scanning a QR code. Buyers could scan the code with their phones and view a three-dimensional image of the winery.
For Gjorgji Karnatov, a fourth-year law student, the programme was an opportunity to work on a project outside his field of study. He learned about the application of AR in branding, as well as European regulations on wine labelling and digital labels.
“I learned how digital storytelling can convey a product’s tradition and quality directly to consumers, as well as how important a multidisciplinary approach is when addressing a real-world business challenge,” says Gjorgji Karnatov.
Within the international teams, the students divided the tasks among writing, design and photography, combining their skills to create the final product.
Gordana Mavrova, a third-year student in the teacher education programme at the Faculty of Philology, particularly remembers the visit to the winery in Santarém. Her interest in Portugal, its culture and music was also one of the reasons she applied for the programme.
“Through my participation, I gained a great deal of new knowledge and definitely developed much greater self-confidence,” says Gordana Mavrova.
